Commissioners press applicant over lack of affordable housing in Dixon Campus plan

At the March 4 hearing commissioners asked why the Dixon Campus proposal does not include affordable or subsidized housing. Commissioner Davis and others noted the project proposes a mix of lot sizes and housing types but no committed inclusionary units.
Staff explained how affordable housing might be added — through nonprofit developers, city inclusionary ordinances (which the city does not have), state density bonus provisions, or negotiation in the development agreement — and stated none of those mechanisms were in play for this application. “The developer is not proposing [affordable housing],” staff said, and noted that negotiated inclusion through a development agreement would be a separate conversation. Commissioners asked the applicant to document whether affordable options could be pursued in subsequent actions.
