Commission to consider grants to bolster crisis stabilization and ComCare treatment services

Tom Stultz told commissioners the agenda includes an application for a little over $1,700,000 to support crisis stabilization planning and services for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illnesses, linking that work to the county STAR program.
"What is it showing as item J is consideration of grant application for a little over $1,700,000 — this is grant funding for crisis stabilization planning processing for individuals with IDD and co occurring mental illnesses," Tom Stultz said while introducing the item. A county staff member added that an agreement allows ComCare access to funds to provide substance-use-disorder treatment for certain nonviolent offenders under community corrections and that these are continuations of existing services. The county also described a separate KDADS-related grant (covering a '23–'24 period because contracting was delayed) that supports homeless outreach staff and a roughly $266,000 juvenile intake and assessment grant (item M).
Staff emphasized these grants sustain existing programs and that ComCare used fund balances to maintain services while contracting caught up. Commissioners did not take final action during the briefing and staff invited further questions.
