County to pay approaches as Iowa DOT begins US 20 PCC project near Moville/Mobile

Woodbury County accepted a preconstruction agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for a Portland cement concrete (PCC) project on US 20 east of Lawton toward Mobile and Moville.
Laura Sievers, secondary-roads engineer, told the board the DOT will reconstruct the US 20 pavement and that the county's financial obligation is limited to replacing gravel approaches with concrete approaches; she estimated the county cost for approaches at $72,635.64. Sievers emphasized that DOT retains ownership and maintenance responsibility for US 20 and that county coordination will be needed for any side-road closures and dust-control measures.
The board received the materials and approved moving forward; agencies and affected local responders (fire/EMS and nearby school districts) will be notified about closures and detours as plans firm up.
