Council approves first reading to rezone Evans Road lot for three homes

Councilman Streetman moved approval of Ordinance 1 on first reading, a zone change request from Lewis Contracting to reclassify a parcel on Evans Road from single-family/mobile-home residential (RM-1) to R-3 three-family residential. The regional planning commission and staff recommended approval.
Bryce Lewis, who identified himself as representing Lewis Contracting, told the council the lot currently contained a dilapidated trailer and that the proposal aimed to add three modest single-family homes. "Whenever I acquired this property, it was, it currently had a, house trailer on it," Lewis said, describing the site's condition and the intent to use existing infrastructure. Council members asked about yard and play space for children; Lewis said the lot is narrow but deep and that rear yards are feasible.
The clerk recorded the vote: 11 yes, 1 no, 0 abstain. Ordinance 1 passed first reading and will return for subsequent consideration.
