Nassau board authorizes new sergeant position and pay increases for police

The Village of Nassau board voted to authorize a new sergeant position in the police department and to adjust pay rates for the sergeant and chief. Chief Bunny and Trustee Guy Forte discussed the role as administrative support and a succession-planning position; the proposed rates were $30.50 per hour for the sergeant and $35.50 per hour for the chief.
Trustee Guy Forte said the position would “train up the next chief” and provide administrative capacity. The board asked about union implications; Forte and other trustees said the change exceeded existing union pay scales and that the union could seek renegotiation if it wished. The board set the effective payroll start date as the 17th of the month and carried the motion by voice vote.
