ETSB hears Starlink backup and network-separation cost estimates after fiber outage

Eric Raymond, the ETS Director, briefed the board on emergency-connectivity options following a fiber outage on March 30, 2026 that disconnected the county backup internet when a vendor disconnected service after an invoice was not sent. Raymond said a month-to-month Starlink plan is estimated at $50 per month with no equipment charge (equipment must be returned if the service ends).
Raymond also reported a ballpark estimate to separate the 911 center from the county network: roughly $40,000 in initial costs and about $10,000 annually thereafter. He said the Finance/IT/Tax committee discussed the matter on April 6, 2026 and recommended additional research; his recommendation at the ETSB meeting was to allow the Iroquois County Board to continue examining the options before the ETSB makes further decisions.
