Trappe delays interior water-tower maintenance after outage during shutdown test

Katherine McAllister of engineering firm GMB told the council that an attempt to take the town’s water tower offline for scheduled interior maintenance caused pressure to drop sharply and left residents without water. “In doing so there were issues that caused the Psi to drop dramatically and residents quickly lost access to water,” McAllister said; she presented options that would be costly and told the council the interior work is not critical at this time.
Given the risk and expense, the council decided to postpone the interior maintenance and asked Southern Corrosion to inspect the tower twice a year; the council will revisit the work after the next inspection. President Newnam also read a Lakeside update from James Cook stating that Lakeside projects Well 4R will be “completed and online by the end of November” and that Lakeside expects to start construction of its water tower in Spring 2026—developments the council said would reduce future outage risk.
