Fire chief shows new gear dryer built by local firefighters; training planned in Elsah

Fire Chief Keith Norman presented council members with a photo of a gear dryer that firefighters Chuck Updike and Joe Travers built to speed drying of turnout gear. Norman said the unit "has the capability to dry two sets of gear in 2 to 3 hours instead of 2 days" and that the department views the device as a practical improvement to firefighter safety and equipment readiness.
Norman also announced the Fire Department will train at the burn tower in Elsah this Thursday. Because most of Jerseyville's crew will be attending that training, the Carrollton Fire Department has offered to send a crew to stand by in Jerseyville during the training, Norman said. The council received the presentation as an informational item; no action was required.
