Mayor presents proclamation to Avon resident who rescued drowning motorist

Mayor Bryan Jensen presented a proclamation recognizing Michael J. Beltz, an Avon resident, for rescuing a motorist from an overturned vehicle that had begun filling with water on Mills Road. The proclamation noted the rescuing party’s quick action despite a torn rotator cuff and said video evidence confirmed the rescue was instrumental in saving the occupant's life.

Mayor Jensen clarified that the individual initially thought to be the rescuer was a firefighter with the same surname, but that the rescuer was in fact the firefighter’s father. The proclamation was issued on behalf of the Mayor, City Council, the Avon Police Department and the Avon Fire Department; Mr. Beltz received the document before Council and photographs were taken with city officials.
