Mayor David Porterfield told the council on Feb. 18 that he has inspected older neighborhoods and identified 65 locations with roadway-edge cracking, potholes and related defects, and he sought council direction on whether to prioritize spot repairs or larger block-by-block resurfacing.
The minutes state the council discussed options and noted the city has a LHTAC chip-seal grant of $100,000 available for chip seal and related improvements. The mayor asked whether to focus on 1st Street to Gary Avenue or Gary Avenue/2nd Street to Notus Road as possible starting areas.
