Notus mayor to draft support letter for ePTC railroad safety at unimproved crossings

The Notus mayor said Feb. 18 that ePTC railroad-safety technology can be applied at unimproved crossings and that he will draft a letter of support to show local demand to railroad partners and the Idaho Transportation Department.
Mayor David Porterfield reported a conversation with Edward Kuchar and told the council the technology "can be used at nonimproved crossings as well as gated crossings." Council President Steve Ahlborn said the city should not support the effort if it required city funding: "if they are asking for City money support then no." Councilman Rob Hartsock said he could support a letter of support provided the city would not be signing a contract.
The mayor said he will draft a support letter to demonstrate local interest to the railroad and ITD, leaving any formal financial or contractual commitments for a later decision.
