Notus council approves replacement building inspector agreement, asks for background checks

The Notus City Council voted Feb. 18 to approve a building inspection services agreement to replace retiring inspector Steve Pierson, and it instructed staff to add company contact information and background-check provisions before execution.
Council discussed the arrangement and noted Mr. Pierson had partnered with Tony and Ryder Young for two years. According to the minutes, "Tony has been the building inspector for the City of Boise and has 20 plus years experience." Councilman Rob Hartsock moved to approve the agreement with T. Young and the City of Notus; Council President Steve Ahlborn seconded and the motion carried with Hartsock, Ahlborn and Councilwoman Lupita Connor voting yes.
City Attorney Ben Layman recommended background checks for the new contractor. The council also voted to "authorize the Mayor to sign once agreement is complete," per a follow-up motion that carried with the same roll-call tally. The minutes state the contract term will "continue until canceled, in writing," and that the fee structure is unchanged and already budgeted.
