At the April 28 meeting the Eagle Urban Renewal District presented a memorandum of understanding offering an additional $850,000 (no match required) to support property acquisition for the Old Park Place extension project. "This is an offer of another $850,000 from urban renewal," Mark Butler, chair of the Eagle Urban Renewal District, told the council, describing the funds as available to assist with acquisition of land at the Walgreens site if the council moves forward with the project.
Councilmembers discussed whether building the connector through the Walgreens parcel would serve broad city interests or primarily benefit a small area. One councilmember said he was “not very supportive of it right now” and expressed concern about construction disruption to local businesses and traffic. The council voted by roll call to accept the MOU to add the $850,000 funding element; the motion carried with one member recorded as opposed. City staff said the combined funding package now totals roughly $2.7 million allocated toward design and acquisition for the Old Park Place project.
