Eagle Police report arrests in traveling theft crew case; homemade explosive devices removed

At the April 28 Eagle City Council meeting, Police Chief Travis Ruby summarized the department’s March activity and highlighted a multi-jurisdictional investigation that led to arrests in a traveling theft crew using a ‘tap-to-pay’ cloning scam. “We did experience traveling theft crew coming through the Treasure Valley, using a tap to pay type scam,” Chief Ruby told the council, adding the investigation led to arrests and identified four local victims.
Chief Ruby said the department handled 16 person-crime investigations in the period, including battery and domestic-related cases, 13 property-crime investigations and 21 arrests reported from earlier months; he also told the council the department recovered homemade explosive devices that were removed from the community with assistance from Boise Police Department’s bomb squad. The department said one ongoing investigation involved explicit child-abuse material and resulted in custody of a suspect who will face the judicial process.
Chief Ruby and councilmembers discussed traffic and crash trends; Ruby cited the city’s four state highways and driver impatience as contributing factors and described continuing coordination with ACHD and ITD on engineering and education steps. He said the department will provide a final annual report draft within one to two months.
