Applicant outlines water use, silt control and dust measures for proposed wash plant

At the June 18 Planning Board meeting, owner Pat Curran described planned environmental controls for the proposed portable wash plant, telling the board the system "will use 10,000–14,000 gallons of municipal water per day" and that clarified water would be returned to the wash system after settling in an on-site pond.
Curran said the process will keep material wet during processing to minimize airborne dust and that the final product will be a coarser sand less prone to blowing. He also told the board the 14,000-gallon tank would be drained in the fall and that the method for winter water disposal was "not yet finalized." The applicant stated the water department had confirmed adequate capacity for the projected daily use.
The minutes record the applicant’s proposed controls but show the winter disposal method and whether additional permits or conditions will be required remain undecided. The Planning Board approved the project unanimously; follow-up by code enforcement and town departments is needed to confirm permit conditions, winter disposal approach and any required monitoring.
