A school staff representative summarized school health data and safety efforts, reporting that asthma remains the district's top health condition, followed by ADHD and mental-health needs. The representative said staff increased supervision and first-aid resources at playgrounds and observed a reduction in playground injuries after those changes.
County survey results presented to the board indicated high rates of anxiety and self-harm among students: "Students who experienced significant problems with anxiety in the last year, was 54 percent" (middle-school combined districts), and high-school anxiety was reported at 47 percent. The presenter said 25 percent of middle-school students reported intentional self-harm (non-suicidal) in the past 12 months and that 16 percent had seriously considered suicide; high-school rates for self-harm without intent to die were 17 percent. The board and staff discussed intervention pathways, crisis-team response and the limitations of local psychiatric resources.
