Public-health staff presented June and July vital statistics, saying that "in June, we had 19 births, 9 males, 10 females, and 39 deaths" and that July recorded 16 births and 16 deaths. Staff identified three accidental deaths in June (including a traumatic brain injury of a 1-year-old and elder accidental deaths) and noted one choking-related death in July. Staff said a regional epidemiologist is examining repeated mentions of pancreatic cancer on local death records.
On communicable diseases, the department reported elevated tick-borne illnesses typical for the season (anaplasmosis, Lyme disease, babesiosis and ehrlichiosis) and a very small increase in COVID‑19 activity. Board members asked about treatment and local case management; staff said a few local cases are undergoing treatment and that the department is coordinating with state and regional partners for more detailed data.
