Staff presented the board with administrative and operational position requests intended to support instruction and daily operations.
Kendall described nine requested administrative/operational positions, including a building principal for non‑traditional services (currently interim), two dean positions (one for Blue Ridge Technical Center and one for Leslie Fox Keiser), a history curriculum coordinator (split role), an HR generalist recruiter to focus on retention and hiring, a systems technician for cybersecurity needs, and a technical innovation coach to support multiple buildings. On facilities, Kendall proposed adding a general maintenance position so specialized technicians (HVAC, electricians) can focus on complex work. "We are looking to add to our bus drivers...and an 8 hour trainer to go alongside of that, to help support them through their CDL practices," Kendall said, describing a grow‑your‑own program for bus drivers.
Kendall also discussed converting a part‑time elementary bookkeeper position to full time or moving to an hourly part‑time pay scale that reflects experience. The board asked clarifying questions about shared services: a county HVAC technician provides some services to schools but reports to the county, an arrangement described as saving roughly $200,000 a year in combined parts and service.
