The Warren County School Board held its first FY 2627 budget work session to review the superintendent’s proposed budget and the calendar for next steps.
The meeting planner (identified in the transcript as the Moderator) told board members that the superintendent must prepare an estimate of public funds under the Code of Virginia and that the draft under review is the superintendent’s proposed budget until the board adopts it. "So, this is our 1st work session on the 2627 budget," the Moderator said, noting binders and handouts had been provided to board members. The Moderator outlined planned dates: another work session on the 28th, a joint work session with the Board of Supervisors on Nov. 13, a targeted public hearing around Dec. 3, and adoption on the 17th.
The Moderator cautioned that state revenue estimates will remain uncertain until the governor’s budget is published and that an election in November could change revenue projections. The board was urged to use upcoming work sessions to resolve outstanding issues — compensation, capital improvements and other priorities — before formal adoption. The session concluded after presentations and a question-and-answer period.
