Clerk (S4) told the commissioners the hiring panel interviewed three applicants and that the board selected a candidate for the clerk position but had not yet completed a background check. S4 described the clerk duties (indexing incoming documents, managing election files, microfilming and other administrative tasks) to explain workload and justify a full-time role.
Separately, commissioners reviewed the revised employee handbook. After discussion the board moved to require annual performance appraisals with a six-month probationary appraisal for new hires (and the option for supervisors to evaluate sooner if deemed necessary). "Performance appraisal…the county should have the option of providing a performance appraisal system," a commissioner said while reviewing handbook language.
