The Onancock Town Council voted to reappropriate $15,750 from a prior Downtown Investment Grant (DIG) match to fund Onancock Main Streets (OMS) new "Open for Business" program for FY2026. Councilmember Cindy Holdren moved for approval and Councilmember Sarah Nock seconded; the roll-call vote was Fiege - aye, Grubb - abstain, Holdren - aye, Marino - aye, Nock - aye, Oswald - nay. The motion carried.
Cindy Mackey had presented OMSs community survey results, a business recruitment and retention plan, and a 2024 year-in-review earlier in the meeting. Councilmember Lisa Fiege explained the original DIG application requested $75,000 for four specific projects with a 2:1 grant match; Virginia Main Street ultimately funded three projects, reducing OMSs required match to $16,750 and leaving $15,750 in the town appropriation. OMS requested that remaining appropriation be reallocated to the "Open for Business" program to support local business development in the historic district.
