The Calumet Downtown Development Authority (DDA) pre-approved spending $60,000 on phase I of the Ruppe Building stabilization, a step aimed at addressing the structure’s most urgent issues, Village Manager Megan Haselden told the council during the Feb. 11 work session. Haselden said the DDA intends to continue fundraising to cover the initial expense and will seek additional resources as needed.
Haselden also reported that the DDA is clarifying the attorney of council’s role should the DDA pursue ownership of the Ruppe Building, and that a Bring Back Calumet group is working to formalize its structure. The DDA is planning related outreach and small programs, including a Small Grant Program and an update to the US41 billboard; a potential sale of property on 5th Street was reported as "more information will be forthcoming."
