Torrance County manager resigns; commission to begin recruitment and seek smooth transition

Chairman Ryan Schwebach announced May 13 that County Manager Jordan Barela has tendered his resignation effective in 32 days after accepting a position in the Albuquerque area. Schwebach said there is no ill will and thanked Barela for his service; Barela agreed to assist with the transition and be available for consultation after departure.
Clerk Sylvia Chavez and Deputy County Manager Michelle Jones offered public appreciation for Barela's professionalism and mentorship. Schwebach said the Commission will post and recruit for the County Manager position promptly and prioritize candidates who understand rural county issues and can maintain continuity on ongoing projects such as the administration building, fire system improvements and ICIP priorities.
