NMSU Extension highlights growth in 4-H and local ceramics program

Debby Maberry of the NMSU Extension Office presented an annual overview of Cooperative Extension Service programming, noting New Mexico's CES reaches roughly one-third of the state's residents annually and that New Mexico 4-H serves over 40,000 youth with more than 200 projects. She said 4-H offerings have broadened beyond livestock to include creative arts, shooting sports, nutrition, and pottery.
Maberry described a three-year emphasis to grow Torrance County's pottery and ceramics work—she teaches ceramics classes locally and plans to expand equipment (additional wheels) so more students can participate. She reminded the Commission the Extension's funding model is split roughly one-third county, one-third state (NMSU), and one-third federal, and encouraged commissioners to support program outreach and facilities that increase youth engagement.
