Fire, police reports: calls, small grants, promotions and accreditation updates

Captain Rob Emery presented the fire department's monthly incident report: 80 EMS runs, 51 fire runs for a total of 131 calls for service in July, plus mutual-aid activity and training hours. He told trustees the department expects to receive $4,000 from CSX Transportation to purchase Knox Box computer devices that will allow centralized programming and faster access to businesses.
"We had 80 EMS runs, 51 fire runs, totaling a 131 calls for service," Captain Emery said. He asked trustees to accept the CSX grant and an Ohio Department of Public Safety grant for training and equipment, and to approve promotions of part-time firefighter EMTs Will Black and Ben (spelled in transcript both as Keiki and Cake) to part-time firefighter paramedic at $20.26 per hour effective 08/09/2026. The board approved the grants and promotions by roll call.
Chief Gerhardt reported police activity for the month including accident responses, arrests, traffic enforcement and community events participation; he described accreditation efforts and training, acknowledged a serious child-abuse case under investigation, and commended officers for their work.
"I want to really commend Sergeant Little for investigating a child **** case...I'm gonna make sure that this person spends hopefully the rest of their life in prison," Chief Gerhardt said, expressing support for investigative work while indicating the department will continue to pursue the case through appropriate channels. He also said the department is pursuing grants such as COPS and working on accreditation steps.
