County staff: DNR permits expected for wetland scrapes, but federal review paused on one site

Conservation staff updated the committee on several on-the-ground projects: wetland scrapes planned near Aurora, shoreline protection efforts on two Fox River properties and follow-up visits to potential Fishlake projects. Staff reported they contacted DNR wetlands personnel and received initial concurrence to begin the permitting process.
"I did contact the DNR wetlands person and got the okay for the start up permitting process, and he said there should be no issue with the permitting," conservation staff said. Separately, staff described a federal 'hit' on a cultural-resources review for another grant-funded project that moves that project into a longer federal review and temporarily pauses construction activities until archaeologists clear the site. The committee heard that typical responses range from 'monitor and proceed' to formal federal clearance requirements depending on the finding.
