The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners voted to authorize the county attorney to file a second‑tier petition for writ of certiorari in GL Acquisitions Corp. v. Hillsborough County, the appeal arising from the board's earlier denial of rezoning for the Pebble Creek golf course.
Assistant County Attorney Cameron Clark told the board the appeal would ask the appellate court to review the circuit court's order rather than the underlying facts of the zoning application. During discussion a commissioner objected to the item being placed on the consent agenda, saying, “I'm very displeased that this was put on consent.” That commissioner urged the board to reconsider the placement and the substance of the appeal before voting.
Chair (speaking for the motion) pointed to community correspondence and the legal basis for denial, reading numbers into the record: “The 1,363 emails that we received, 1,090 opposed the request, which is 80%.” After an initial vote failed 3–4, a motion to reconsider passed and the board then approved the authorization to appeal by a 4–3 vote. The clerk recorded the final tally in the minutes.
