Nogales HA reports 97% public-housing occupancy, Section 8 utilization near target

At the Aug. 5 meeting, Judy Armendariz provided month-end operational figures for the Nogales Housing Authority.
"For the month of July, public housing, we have 97% with a target of 98," Armendariz said, adding that 250 units were currently leased, 4 units were under modernization, 3 were in turnaround, and 4 were ready to lease.
Armendariz reported Section 8 totals of 202 vouchers (172 Housing Choice vouchers, 20 public-base vouchers and 4 stability vouchers) with utilization at about 97%. She said the Housing Choice waiting list is closed and that the authority "won't open it anytime soon."
Armendariz also noted emergency vouchers number about 18; some of the emergency-voucher funding will end in December, and staff will need to plan for that funding expiration. The board discussed the operational implications and confirmed staff would manage interviews and placements as unit turnover occurs.
