Vice‑Chair Ralph White led a slide presentation drawing on multiple local examples of historic homes that were saved and repurposed amid later development. He described the Ora Butler Cahoon House (1845) and the H.H. Williams House (1836), the latter of which was preserved after litigation and a petition that drew more than 1,000 signatures and now hosts multiple commercial tenants.
Mr. White also cited the Ambrose Forthofer property, recently restored and listed for $700,000; the Old Schoolhouse, incorporated into the City Centre development and now the David Scott Salon; and the Alvin Stickney House retained on roughly 1.5 acres. He used those cases to argue that preservation can coexist with new housing and to "plant a seed of thought" for possible approaches to the Colvin Sweet House. "I'm just glad they saved it," he said about one restoration.
