Council asks for cost estimate to network lift stations into SCADA system; tables action

Brian (city wastewater operator) described how existing lift-station alarms are only local audible/visual alerts and that integrating lift stations into the plant's SCADA system would provide immediate remote notifications and faster response. "We're asking that the lift station to become part of that, upgrade and basically, just networked into this data system so that we can receive a faster, notification, and we can respond more quickly to when there's issues with those," Brian said, describing the operational benefit.
Consultants said Automation Works and other vendors can provide costs; one rough estimate mentioned during discussion was about $100,000 to integrate the dozen or so lift stations. Councilors said they were uncomfortable approving an open-ended expenditure and moved to table the item until staff provides a firm cost estimate or bid so the council can consider the expense alongside contingency funds and other priorities.
