Council recognized local volunteers and organizations that organized relief for families affected by recent floods in Nogales Sonora, highlighting donations and cross-border coordination.
Ashley Wilson and Victoria Via of The Stimming Co. described collecting clothes, blankets, hygiene items, pet food and other supplies and coordinating cross-border distribution with local radio and partners. "Our community came together," Wilson said, recounting filling a tow truck with donations and arranging multiple drop-offs.
Representatives of the Santa Cruz Children's Museum asked the council for in-kind support and operational guidance as they prepare to open. A museum representative said the building and exhibits are largely in place and that the festival is an important fundraiser and organizational step toward opening; councilmembers discussed safety staffing and volunteer models used by other community events.
Council approved several event-related in-kind requests by voice vote and recommended organizers coordinate with city safety personnel, volunteer patrol groups and staff to determine appropriate officer coverage or alternate trained volunteers for crowd management.
Next steps: museum organizers will work with city staff to finalize event logistics and compliance and pursue required licensing and nonprofit filings; volunteers will continue relief operations and coordinate with city partners for future community support efforts.
