City Attorney Eric briefed the council on two administrative items. Second, he outlined a proposed policy to comply with an amendment to the Public Officers Law that requires notification to current and former employees when the city releases disciplinary records under FOIL. Eric described the practical steps: records may still be redacted or not released in full, but when release occurs the city must make good-faith efforts to notify the affected employee in writing. "There is a statutory requirement that employees must be notified that it's been released," he said. Staff will bring a proposed resolution to adopt the notification policy at the next council meeting.
