County reports MED 3 ambulance needs new engine; Ford warranty may cover replacement

An agency official reported mechanical failures on MED 3, a 2022 gasoline ambulance that experienced repeated misfires and, after multiple repairs, failed a cylinder pressure test. "So it's gonna be a new engine," the agency official said, adding that the truck has about 88,000 miles and Ford's commercial-fleet coverage runs to 100,000 miles; county staff are working with the dealer to have a replacement engine installed, which staff said should limit county expense.
The official said Bullitt County agreed to loan a truck to keep the county's fleet operational while the replacement and inspections are completed. Staff estimated the replacement vehicle will be outfitted and inspected in roughly three to four weeks. The court acknowledged the fleet concerns and noted future procurement decisions (diesel v. gasoline) may affect vehicle longevity and maintenance costs.
