He noted the program has been in motion for years and was re‑phased after available city and state funding covered roughly half of the original ~$4 million concept; Phase 1 focuses on the pathway, landscaping and drainage with technical plans complete and a contract expected to be awarded later in the year.
Sakamoto and board members discussed construction timing (anticipated award and early 2025 start for a roughly one‑year Phase 1), safety workshops with stakeholders and next steps to introduce the contractor to community partners. The presentation emphasized retaining existing trees where possible and adding accessible ramps to the Aloha Clubhouse.
