Vice Chair Gregory Jenkins moved to appoint Deputy Director Kainea Aiwohi-Alo as Acting Director of Personnel Services if the commission had not completed a final selection of a new director by the current Director's retirement date; Commissioner Sarah Pajimola seconded. The commission amended the motion to clarify that the appointment would take effect only if the commission had not completed the selection by the Director's retirement date. Deputy Director Kainea Aiwohi-Alo accepted the role.
The amended motion carried unanimously. The commission recorded that the Acting Director appointment would become effective upon the Director's retirement, currently set to take effect August 1, 2026. "If a final selection of the new Director of Personnel Services is not completed by the commission as of the Director's retirement date, the commission will appoint Deputy Director, Kainea Aiwohi-Alo, as Acting Director until the position is filled," the motion stated, as offered by Vice Chair Jenkins.
The action establishes an immediate staffing continuity plan so the Department of Personnel Services will have leadership coverage if the hiring process extends beyond the incumbent's retirement. The minutes do not record any dissenting votes or conditions attached to the appointment.
