HFD outlines PSPS planning, June incident figures and heat-safety advice

Makiono presented June 2024 incident statistics: medical emergencies (165), collision alarms with no fire (13), motor vehicle collisions (6), ocean rescues (1), and nuisance fires (3). He clarified nuisance fires include rubbish fires outside structures or vehicles. He also promoted evacuation planning, high‑rise fire safety presentations and online request forms for community training at fire.honolulu.gov.
On heat safety, Makiono warned that Hawaii's humid conditions limit cooling and can increase heat‑illness risk, and pointed residents to resilientoahu.org and heat.gov for preparations. He gave practical tips — stay cool in shade, wear lightweight clothing and check vulnerable neighbors — and provided a public affairs contact number for follow‑up.
