Commission asks for shared‑use update as transportation and middle‑school sports concerns surface

Rosanna Bionmore, the city administrator, described a city–school liaison committee that appointed a stakeholder task force to review the existing shared‑use agreement, gather input, evaluate cost‑sharing and maintenance responsibilities, and recommend how the city and Piedmont Unified School District can serve community needs without creating an undue cost burden for either party. "The purpose of the task force is to, interview a number of stakeholders... to look at the existing, shared use agreement and evaluate what's working, what's not working," Bionmore said.
Commissioners also raised transportation and emergency‑coordination concerns. A commissioner recounted a prior wildfire/smoke incident when Schoolmates had been over capacity and could not move children indoors because school spaces were unavailable, forcing many parents to pick up children—an example several members used to argue for clearer joint‑use and emergency protocols. Commissioners asked staff to provide context on historical transportation (walking buses, prior city busing) and to put transportation and shared‑use updates on a future agenda when task‑force findings are available.
Staff said the task force is still in fact‑finding and that when materials are ready they will report out to the commission and the public.
