ESL and CTE expansion draws strong local demand at Piedmont Adult School

The Piedmont Adult School reported growth across ESL and short-term career-technical education (CTE) courses this fall. Director Shannon Fierro said ESL programs restarted a few years ago and have grown; enrollment reached 109 last year and an additional advanced ESL class will be offered this year.
On the CTE side, Fierro said offerings expanded from a single course to more than 10 class options, and she singled out an Introduction to AI class that "filled up on the first day" and now carries a wait list. Fierro credited partnerships—including a SCORE corps of retired business executives—and volunteer "conversation partners" for improving English conversation practice and community engagement.
