Director Shannon Fierro told the board the community side of the Piedmont Adult School is "trending positively," reporting a net surplus of about $49,000 last year even as office support staffing shrank. She said registration for the fall semester brought in roughly $55,000 within the first three days.
Fierro explained that state-funded programming is paid through a consortium (the Northern Alameda Adult Education Collective) and that Piedmont receives a share of the consortium allocation. "We don't use any K–12 general fund," she said, stressing that the adult school maintains separate funding and pays a district share for utilities and custodial costs. Board members pressed for program-level breakdowns and staffing ratios; Fierro said some program-level choices are made within the consortium allocation and that the adult school grows programs where service demand is highest.
