Piedmont honors retiring Police Chief Jeremy Bowers with proclamation and tributes

Former mayors and community leaders praised Bowers9 leadership and community engagement. Former Mayor Jen Kavanaugh said Bowers had set a high bar for partnership between public safety and schools and called his impact 9incredible.9 Former Mayor Teddy Grey King and Bob McBain echoed those remarks, highlighting Bowers9 willingness to do the hard work of relationship-building. Jennifer Alderman, speaking for the Jewish community of Piedmont, described how Bowers9s office helped secure safety and visibility after October 7 and presented a commissioned artwork in appreciation.
In his remarks, Bowers described his decision to join Piedmont after an 18-year career in San Jose and reflected on the department9s growth and teamwork. He thanked his family and staff and said he felt both "overwhelmed" and grateful for the community9s support. "I didn't make them all, because it's still a demanding job, but there's no doubt that the opportunity to come here allowed me...to have a leadership endeavor that was meaningful," he said. The council invited family and colleagues to join a reception and photograph after the meeting.
