Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council that the candidate approved at the previous meeting has not responded to contact attempts and he is “assuming he is no longer interested.” He said there are 32 candidates on the consortium eligibility list and that he would like to hire two part-time officers although only one position had been approved by the borough.
Pernice said he will contact the consortium, arrange oral exams with the Civil Service Commission and send letters to applicants. Councilors present (Joyce, Osborn, Steadman and Kerns) agreed to continue a search for one part-time officer. The update was delivered as part of the police chief’s report and did not include a formal vote.
