Union City Borough council approves ARPA stormwater spending, authorizes negotiations for ball fields

Union City Borough Council convened on Oct. 7, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the First Global Methodist Church. Councilor Cross called the meeting to order; the council adopted an amended agenda ("Motion by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Kerns to adopt the agenda as amended"), approved minutes from Sept. 16, and heard routine departmental reports.
Manager Cindy Wells told the council the borough received $48,955.80 in Municipal Pension State Aid and that the borough has secured three grants totaling $264,000 for first-floor improvements at the City Building. Wells also recommended designating ARPA funds to cover stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1 and Hogan’s Alley; Council approved $39,060.20 for that work. Council also approved presenting a draft agreement to the American Legion regarding purchase of the ball fields and accepted the resignation of part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka. Several procedural and capital items were approved, including retroactive purchase approval for a 2021 CF Moto CForce 600 ATV for $5,000.
