Police Chief David Pernice reviewed July 2024 police activity and said that from June 1 through Aug. 13 the department logged 269 calls, averaging about 3.63 calls per day. He listed types of incidents that have occupied officers, including vehicle pursuits, protection-from-abuse petitions, warrants, domestic incidents, drug activity, homelessness, vandalism and burglary, and noted recent suicide and mental‑health related responses.
Pernice also said he and Officer Shelly attended an Alert Active Shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek PD and described it as beneficial. He reported that he applied to the Union City Community Foundation for funding for four tasers and for additional security cameras to cover another section of North Main Street; the foundation awarded both requests, according to the minutes.
