McLeod County renews transportation contract with Buffalo Lake‑Hector School District

The McLeod County Board on Aug. 4 approved a contract renewal with Buffalo Lake‑Hector School District No. 2159 to provide transportation services for eligible students from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028.
Health & Human Services (Baird) said the agreement covers transportation for students who can ride on existing routes as well as students with individualized education plans (IEPs) who require specialized transportation. "The district and McLeod County agreed to split the cost of transportation," Baird said; during the meeting staff indicated the county would pay half of the shared transportation costs and mileage reimbursement will follow the current IRS rate.
Commissioners asked how transportation is arranged when a child enters foster care; Baird said it could be either the county case manager or the school district and that the intent is to keep students in their accustomed district when feasible. Commissioner Dahl moved approval and the board adopted the contract by voice vote.
