Union City Borough Council voted on Aug. 13, 2024, to hire Kenneth Fye from the certified civil service list as a part-time police officer. The motion was made by Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Osborn and carried unanimously during the meeting held at First Global Methodist Church.
Mayor Robert Wolf told council it is important to maintain a police department and recommended hiring a part‑time officer. Councilors discussed costs: Councilor Kerns asked what the cost would be and Borough Manager Cindy Wells said the final cost depends on the number of hours worked; the budget had allowed at least $33,560 for wages and benefits but hiring part‑time was expected to come in lower. The council took a formal motion to hire the candidate and approved it without recorded dissent.
