Council split as Radke urges cancellation of Flock contract, local misdemeanor for misuse

"I want to cancel this contract," Radke said during Q&A, urging colleagues to place the contract renewal on a future agenda and proposing a local criminal penalty for misuse of the system. He argued that the nationwide Flock network creates heat maps and can be used to follow people day after day.
Other council members responded with a mix of concern and measured support for further review. Several expressed interest in pursuing an ordinance that would make misuse a criminal offense and asked staff to research which outside agencies have 287(g)-style agreements with the federal government before deciding on reciprocal access or termination. City Attorney and City Manager said the council can enact a local ordinance to criminalize misuse if members direct staff to draft one.
