At the Jan. 7 meeting resident Michelle Merrifield presented a draft letter asking the council to support measures such as fire breaks or a controlled burn to reduce dry-vegetation fire risk in valley farmlands. "Michelle wrote a letter for MAC approval," the minutes record, and members held a lengthy discussion in favor of exploring the proposal.
Dane Downing moved that the MAC support the letter, and the motion carried with no objections. The minutes indicate the approved letter will go next to the Round Valley Indian Tribes (RVIT), and Kathy Britton volunteered to present it to local fire providers, including the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department and CalFire, with the goal of securing support for a future project.
