The Onslow County Board of Adjustment continued VAR-2026-00002 — a request by Elizabeth Aguirre Chavez for an 11.9-foot variance from the 20-foot front setback on a 0.14-acre lot — to the June 23, 2026 meeting. Staff said county records include only a 1974 septic permit and the site plan did not show the repair area; Senior Zoning Officer Ryan Tallman indicated the drain field location was not shown. Ms. Chavez said she did not know the mobile home was placed incorrectly and that Environmental Health staff had told her she would not have issues; County Attorney Jonathan Eure noted that assertion is hearsay on the record. The board voted 5-0 to continue the item and asked the applicant to provide a site plan showing the drain field and repair area.
Board members emphasized the small lot size and requested clearer septic documentation before making a final decision. The board also clarified that continuance would allow staff and the applicant to coordinate a site plan and relevant septic repair-area details for the June hearing.
