The Onslow County Board of Adjustment on April 28 approved Special Use Permit SUP-2025-00017, clearing the way for a proposed triplex by Prestigious Rentals on a 0.24-acre lot zoned R-8M. Planning staff presented decision criteria and Senior Zoning Officer Ryan Tallman provided an overview; the board then heard from applicant representative Bryan Jarman, who said "the property is on a septic system." The final approval passed on a 5-0 vote after the board adopted the four required general findings.
Board members pressed the applicant on septic capacity and on appraisal language described by a member as "extraordinary." Resident and nearby property owner Carl Setman raised concerns about traffic, property values and whether approving this request would set a precedent for similar developments. Staff said parking documentation had been supplied to county staff for review. The board concluded that the proposal met the county's special-use criteria and voted to approve SUP-2025-00017.
