District reports summer progress on nearly $300M in active projects

Inglewood Unified School District officials reported substantial summer progress across multiple construction and modernization projects during the Facilities Advisory Committee meeting.
Chief Business Official and assistant superintendent Sadat Bata said the district has "nearly $300,000,000 of facilities projects underway," and highlighted completed work at City Honors (new gym floor, exterior/interior painting) and the installation of modular buildings for the child development center, which staff expect to occupy in September. Jordan Miles, committee chair, described Bennett Q's new middle-school classroom building as about "90% complete" and on budget at approximately $11,500,000, with outdoor site development expected to finish in October and occupancy in September for the building itself.
Miles said Oak Street is installing 10 modular classrooms, funded in part by a $5,400,000 Office of Public School Construction grant for seven preschool/TK/K classrooms; the district expects modular units to be set on foundations the day after the meeting and the first phase activated by Thanksgiving. The district office relocation to the Old Warren Lane campus is cleared for preconstruction and a guaranteed maximum price is expected at the board meeting on the 19th, with construction slated to start in late August and staff moves over winter break.
On the district's largest project, Miles said the Inglewood High reconstruction (53 classrooms, project budget cited in discussion as $232,000,000) has completed demolition with the auditorium and gym remaining; excavation is finished and foundation work is expected later this fall. He emphasized that some packages still await state review but that the work will move forward once approvals are received.
